It’s the New Year and if your like me, you’ve already broke a few (if not all) of your New Years resolutions. Or, you’ve found sufficient justification on why you should put it off. For example, you’ll start your diet tomorrow (after the National Championship Football Game).
One or more of the resolutions I make tend to be associated with my golf game. Everything from practicing more to playing more to phasing out my bad shot tantrums. Some I do better at, but most I forget by the time that the golf season rolls around.
It’s harder than it used to be to just go out after work and practice (or play) golf. Life’s fully of growing responsibilities these days and with three kids running around, I have lots of good reason to be doing things other than practicing pitch shots. But, now that the kids are getting older and they like golf, it’s becoming a good time to make an effort to balance both by bringing them together more.
So, here are 3 easy to do New Years Resolutions for my golf game that will not only improve my game, but also the time I spend with my kids:
1. Practice in the backyard. I have an easy to setup/take down golf net. Last year I spent a few nights hitting golf balls into it and also helping the kids learn to hit the ball better. I resolve to pull this out at least 2 nights a week and spend 15 minutes on my swing and at least twice that on each of my kids’ swings.
2. Putt, Putt. My long game is about the same as it has been for a couple of years. But, my short game is much worse. While not as cool as a true putt putt course, our local course has a putting green. This year, I’ll make an effort to go practice putting with my kids. And to help make it memorable and fun for all of us, we’ll turn it into a putting contest where no matter who wins, we’ll go get ice cream (there goes my diet resolution).
3. A Family outing. The wife has expressed an interest in learning how to play golf. With her and our two oldest kids, we have a foursome. That’s the perfect number for a Sunday afternoon tee time.
So there you have it. 3 New Years Resolutions for the golf game that are manageable, attainable, AND FAMILY FRIENDLY!
