The PGA tour’s new season is just about to hit full swing with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions this coming Friday. To stoke the fire of us Monday morning caddies, the PGA tour has put out it’s annual preview of ”Top 100 Players” to watch in 2012.
The PGA Tour’s list will obviously invoke some reactions, good and bad, from the golf fans. I don’t disagree that these are guys to watch, but they may not ultimately be guys to watch play great golf. For example, one of my bold predictions is that Anthony Kim (34th on the PGA list) has a disaster of a season. He’s wildly talented, but his partying and off the field shenanigans are likely to start really catching up to him personally and professionally. He’ll be more of a reality show than a real contender this season.
Another bold prediction? Well, my breakout player of the year prediction is riding on Bryce Molder. Ranked 68th on the list, he’s going to pick up an early season win to follow up his first tour win at last year’s Frys.com Open. And, I believe he’ll be a contender in a few other contests as well. With a last name like Molder . . .well Skully, you just have to believe!
Here is my full list of bold predictions for 2012:
Breakout Player of the Year: Bryce Molder
Broke-down Player of the Year: Anthony Kim
Major Miracle Winner: Sergio Garcia wins the Brittish Open and gets the Seve off his back
Winless, but Wonderous: Phil Mickleson gives us a great show, but can’t close out a win
Comeback Player of the Year: David Duvall dials up nostalgia and pulls out a win
Master’s Miracle: Fred Couples gets another green jacket
Fed-Ex Champ: Zach Johnson stays steady and finishes strong
What are you’re bold predictions for 2012?
[...] I published a blog post on January 1st this year that looked at the PGA’s upcoming 2012 campaign and made some bold predictions. You can check them out here. [...]
Bryan: I too think Ryan Moore is going to do well very soon, because he needs to be in top major winning form come Chambers Bay in 2015. Do you know how many tournaments that Troy Kelly is expected to play in this year?
Fred Couples would be a great Masters champion AGAIN. Also, keep an eye out for Ryan Moore, I think he is positioned to win at least one tournament if not two. On another local note, keep an eye out for Central Kitsap grad Troy Kelly who finished in the top five on the Nationwide to earn full PGA credentials this year, expect one top 10 from him.
