If you don’t think social media is important for your business then you need to read this story. After posting a simple tweet on Twitter, Jason Gore’s fan went on a Twitter campaign to earn him a sponsors exemption into a PGA Tour event.
Typically, one would associate such Twitter campaigns with politics, support for an oscar nominee or even fervent fan support for a college football or basketball team. Maybe even the NFL draft.
But golf is generally a different sport. With the exception of the Tiger phenomena (and a true handful of people), golf fans are more subdued. And qualifying for events and keeping ones tour card is a day in day out struggle for many pros.
So it is quite a milestone that strong fan support and social media have now entered the PGA in an exciting way.
